FACE VESSELS

This assignment was to add a face onto an existing pot. Some of the "pots" were actually ceramic lamps and vases. I got the pots from various second-hand stores and had each student select one. Then, using Sculpty that could be hardened in a conventional home oven, they formed the eyes, ears, nose and mouth for their face pots. I baked each face element then, and gave them back to the students, ready to be applied to the pot. They were applied using Hot glue and E-6000 then covered with plastered gauze which hardened after soaking and applying. Each student then painted their pot, using earth-tones to make them resemble the original face pots which were made popular by slaves years ago. They finished their pots by adding jute, string, beads, or other decorative features.
